Expert Answers about Battery Boxes

  • How Waterproof is TorkLift TLA7700L Battery Box
  • According to the folks at TorkLift, the # TLA7700L battery box would be considered water resistant, not waterproof, as all batteries need to be able to vent. The don't offer a battery box that's 100% waterproof for that reason. My TorkLift rep tells me that they've received feedback from customers that have used self-stick weatherstripping on the lid of the box to help seal it which works well to keep water away from the wiring connections at the terminal. I've linked to a product description...

  • Are Holes in Lid Of TorkLift Battery Box Designed For Ventilation
  • The holes in the sliding lid on a TorkLift battery Box like part # TLA7708R are designed to let you run wiring and also designed for ventilation as you mentioned. These battery boxes are not waterproof. I confirmed this with my contact at TorkLift.

  • Is The Tow-Rax Battery Box # TWSP14BP Lockable
  • The Tow-Rax Battery Box, part # TWSP14BP does not come with a lock available. If you want to lock the box you would have to fabricate something, possibly using a padlock like part # RM-305. That would require drilling into the box lid and cabinet and may not be the best option. We do offer a very nice locking battery box, part # TLA7712R. This battery box comes with the hardware needed to mount it to the trailer frame or any other place you have room and has a lockable lid included.

  • Does Battery For Popup Camper Need To Be Grounded To Trailer
  • If you are using a 12V battery on your popup camper you will need to ground the battery to the trailer frame. Since you said you are charging the battery with a solar panel you will not need to attach the battery to the trailer connector. I also recommend installing a battery box like part # DW03188. This battery box comes with the mounting hardware and a strap to secure the battery box to the trailer frame.

  • Powering Interior Lights of Enclosed Trailer With 12 Volt Battery
  • There is a simpler way than a generator, as this would be difficult, and most generators that have a 12 volt outlet require that only to be used for battery charging. So I recommend a standalone battery on your enclosed trailer, and I'm sure you can find somebody to do it for you, yes. You'll need to utilize local resources though to find someone such as a local handyman possibly or some other individual comfortable with wiring. What you'll do is use a 12 volt battery mounted on the trailer....

  • Can NOCO 329-GENIUS10 Battery Charger Jump Start a Vehicle
  • The NOCO # 329-GENIUS10 is a battery charger only, it wouldn't work unless plugged into a 110V AC outlet. To jump start a dead car battery, you'll need a jump box with an on-board battery. I'd recommend the NOCO Boost X Jump Starter, part # NOC48VR. The box can provide multiple jump starts off a single charge. It works great on vehicles with gas engines up to 6.5L and Diesel engines up to 4.0L. The box has USB ports that can be used to charge your phone, laptop, tablets and other electronics. I'll...

  • How Does Lid of TorkLift # TLA7708R Battery Box Open
  • The TorkLift # TLA7708R battery box you mentioned is 8-3/16 inches wide, so its fit behind your propane bottles will depend on how much space you have available. The top is hinged, as shown in the diagram I provided, because you have limited clearance, the box wouldn't be a good choice for you. Using two of the Tow Rax # TWSP14BP boxes might be an option for you. The boxes measure 14 x 9 x 10-3/8 inches tall. The lid of the box is secured by latches that would allow you to easily remove...

  • Is a Specific Type of Battery Required for Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch
  • The type of battery you are looking for to use with the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Trailer Winch # TW4015 is just going to be a 12 volt battery rated for a minimum of 40 amps, and this is going to be a standard vehicle battery. There are so many different types of batteries now at wildly different prices that it is easy to get lost but you only need a basic battery. For this winch there is not any type of specific battery required so long as it meets those requirements. The only...

  • Can I Power Lights On My Horse Trailer With a Small Battery Installed on Trailer
  • Yes, you would be able to install a battery on your horse trailer, and power the lights when the trailer is not connected to the truck. What you will want to do is run the power wire, typically the Black wire, on the trailer connector and connect it to the positive battery terminal. You will want to ground the battery to the trailer frame, and then run the power wires for the lights to the positive battery terminal. Each light assembly should be grounded to a clean metal surface. You...

  • How To Wire In a Power Distribution Box To Accept Power From Shore Power and a 12V Inverter?
  • You are correct that the Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center # PD4135K is only a power distribution box and charger for your batteries. If you are going to run power to the Progressive Dynamics distribution box off of a shore power cord and an inverter you will need to also use a Automatic Transfer Switch # F30ATS. The transfer switch will allow from power to come from 2 different sources. When you disconnect your shore power or if the power were to go out it will automatically...

  • How to Activate 7-Way Auxiliary Power Circuit on 2004 Jeep Wrangler
  • When checking fuses, did you check the fuse box under the hood, as well? There are fuses in the power distribution box, the lid of the box provides a diagram showing which fuse protects which circuit. I'd look for a circuit marked Trailer Charge or Trailer Auxiliary Power, and replace the fuse if it's missing or blown. Due to the distance between the alternator on the Wrangler and the trailer battery, the size of the alternator and the small wire gauge, the auxiliary circuit from the 7-way...

  • Are 'Lithium' Stickers on TorkLift Power Armor Locking Battery Boxes Easily Removable
  • Torklift uses both stickers and thin aluminum plates with a sticker affixed to it. Either is fairly easily removed. The plates are a little harder to remove. I've had good luck removing that kind of thing by applying low heat from a heat gun or blow dryer to the label to soften the adhesive then using a piece of fishing line. Wrap both ends of a length of line around your index fingers and work the line under an edge of the plate. Use a back and forth sawing motion, and the line will work...

  • How To Correctly Connect the 12V Charge Wire To the Battery Box On The Hopkins Engager Brakeaway
  • When Wiring the Hopkins Engager # 20099, the the black wire coming off the battery box would be wired to your trailers 12v auxiliary power lead. This will keep a charge on the brakeaway battery anytime the trailer is in use. I would not recommend wiring the charge line to your side lights. I would be concerned that the side light wire may not provide a complete, effective charge to the battery while also properly powering the lights. It is definitely not worth risking a dead Brakeaway battery.

  • Best Way to Power Lights in Enclosed Trailer
  • Ok, we can give you some guidance on this, and the best way to power up interior lights in your enclosed trailer is with an independent 12 volt battery mounted directly on the trailer. To do this, mount the battery with Battery Box # TLA7708R and use a junction box like # 38656 to tap into your 7-way so the battery gets a maintenance charge when you are hooked up to the 7-way. If you need to hook up your junction box it will require ring terminals # 44-5310A, and 12 gauge wire # 12-1-1...

  • Can I Disconnect Power from Curt T-Connector Part C56331 When Not Towing For Long Periods
  • The correct Curt trailer wiring harness for your 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan is part # C56331. This does include a mains fuse holder for controlling 12V power to the taillight converter box. If you wish you may remove this fuse to cut-off power input to the converter box. However, do be careful to avoid losing the fuse (or keep some spares in the glove box, which is a good idea in any case). Do please note that when the converter output is not connected to a trailer via the 4-pole, no power...

  • How to Wire Pop-Up Trailer so Battery is Maintained Through Trailer Connector
  • Somewhere further downstream of the point where the trailer connector wire on the trailer side meet, you should be able to access all the individual circuits where they branch off and tap in to the power feed for the battery. If that's not possible, your best bet would be to remove the existing plug and part of the cable along the trailer tongue and wiring in a new cable/plug/junction box like # HS381-9000 which would be installed as shown in the video I've linked for you. The junction...
